I recently photographed my father in law Mr. Charles Gurkin at the request of my mother in law Becky, an extraordinary woman I will tell you about sometime. This particular image requires a little history. Charlie is and has been many things in his life, a vietnam veteran, police officer, salesman, poet, novelist, inventor, husband, father, photographer for 35 years, and a friend. Charlie helped start me on this journery of exploration in photography and life for which I am ever grateful.
Now retired, Charlie spends his days inventing new bicycle configurations which he regulary rides through town. This image for Becky is a combination of two things she loves, Charlie and her house.
I could write a book on Charlie and the lives he has lived, but I will end here saying that Charlie has one thing for sure, my respect. I decided not to long ago I would tell Charlie how I felt about him and how much he has enriched my life, instead of poetic words I came up with one sentence. "Charlie, I would help you hide the body".
